Capture surfaces
Capture workflow
1
Open the capture surface
Use the overlay row or a configured shortcut for the capture tool you need.
2
Configure output
For the screenshot tool, set the output folder, filename template, scale, and preview visibility. For room or map capture, set the export path, image format, wait and offset values, marker options, and capture behavior. For recording, configure output, codec, replay buffer duration, audio, and clip triggers.
3
Check policy suboptions
Timer-freeze or proof-affecting suboptions can be stricter than the base capture row. Read the badge before enabling.
4
Capture and review
Inspect the output before sharing. Confirm it shows the intended state and does not include unwanted technical details.
Internal Recorder
The internal recorder captures local frames for review without changing gameplay state. It provides output, audio, replay buffer, codec, clip trigger, and preset configuration through the Internal Recorder overlay tab. Preset shortcuts (CPU, NVIDIA, AMD) select a codec and quality combination in one step. Available codecs include x264 (CPU), H.264 NVENC (NVIDIA), H.264 AMF (AMD), HEVC NVENC, and VP9. For proof-oriented use, combine recorder settings with Submission Mode and proof helpers. A video alone does not capture all proof context.Capture a proof-oriented attempt
1
Check the submission rules
Confirm which video, metadata, screenshots, and Akron settings the target community requires. Akron records context, but it does not decide whether a run is accepted.
2
Prepare Akron
Apply the intended setup, enable Submission Mode, and enable only the proof helpers required for the submission.
3
Arm capture
Start recording or replay buffering before the attempt. If Proof Recorder Guard warns that capture is not armed, fix the recorder state before continuing.
4
Start a fresh attempt
Begin from the expected attempt status. Watch the status during play so classified feature use is visible.
5
Review the output
Inspect the video and any proof sidecar, screenshot, or journal output before submitting it. See Proof and submission mode for what Akron records and what it cannot prove.
Streamer Mode and output paths
When Streamer Mode is active, Akron replaces local filesystem paths with filenames or final folder names in HUD, overlay, and proof displays. Streamer Mode does not hide in-game data such as room IDs, flags, entity text, or StartPos coordinates.Troubleshooting
- If a capture is blank or cropped, verify the capture mode and output resolution.
- If output paths appear hidden, check whether Streamer Mode is active.
- If Proof Recorder Guard warns that capture is not armed, start recording or replay buffering before the attempt.
- If recording reports that FFmpeg did not start, install FFmpeg or set
AKRON_FFMPEGto the executable path. - If capture freezes timers, check whether a stricter suboption is enabled.
